A better approach to sleep.
Introducing my Sleep Well approach.

In 2004 when I first started helping babies sleep well there was very little help and very little information on baby sleep. At the time I was working as a nutritional therapist, paediatric nurse in Accident and Emergency as well as delivering first aid and weaning classes. As soon as any parent found out I had been a nanny and maternity nurse the conversation always came round to sleep. Parents were exhausted, the lack of information left them with so many questions unanswered and the only go to for help was their Health Visitor, who usually only offered advice on how to do controlled crying and cry it out, something the parents that approached me wanted to avoid at all costs.

Fast-forward nearly 2 decades and times have massively changed, there is so much information out there. This excess of information often leads to what I can the ‘try everything approach’ to sleep.

Here is a little scenario:

You decide that your sleep situation isn’t working for you, your exhausted, don’t have any evenings, can’t get everything done. You need to move forward from rocking or feeding your baby to sleep. What do you do? You ‘try everything’ to achieve this, of course you do – you are desperate.

The ‘try everything’ approach never works. The most important thing for any sleep program to work are the 3 C’s; to be Consistent, Calm and Confident.  By swapping and changing, getting upset and not sticking to one thing you are being inconsistent, panicked, and nervous. Exactly the opposite that your baby needs to learn something new.

We will also introduce sleep triggers and find one consistent way that everyone can settle your baby to sleep.

Once the daytimes are working, we tackle the night times, using the skills you and your baby have already practiced in the daytime. Finally, we start the actual sleep training. This includes several stages to get you from where you are now, to baby sleeping independently. There will be no leaving baby to cry, you can take this as slowly as you feel comfortable, each stage moving closer to that end point of baby sleeping on their own.
