Practical & emotional support

Using over 25 years of experience to help you plan and prepare for your new arrival

New parent support- from pregnancy through to baby…

Most parents journey starts when they stare in disbelief at that little extra blue line on the test strip. Much of the information given to you in pregnancy is about the birth. You talk to your midwife, write your birth plan and google lists of what you need in your baby bag. All the focus is on those few significant, but often, uncontrollable hours of being a parent.

My new parent support is new baby focused- preparing you for the emotional transition to being a parent but also offering real practical support to ensure you enter this stage of your life relaxed and confident.

The focus is on you and your newborn baby

I know everyone realises that they will have a baby at the end of labour, and although most will go out and buy everything they need the preparation often stops there. Who thinks about the emotional, physical and psychological changes that you will go through when you bring your baby home, let alone the changes to your relationship as a couple, your new lifestyle and the practicalities of having a baby to look after.

“It’ll come naturally” is often far from the truth. There are so many different parenting styles and choices and, without planning, the impact of the choices you make, or fall into because you’re in survival mode, will affect your parenting journey moving forward.

by discussing and making choices before baby arrives, you’ll have the best possible chance of following the path that you choose.

By passing on my practical baby care solutions I will give you the knowledge and confidence, to look after your new baby.  My support will prepare for your arrival and ensure you feel confident taking that wonderful, but often daunting step into parent hood.

Welcome to the best journey you’ll ever take!

It’s all in the planning...

The transition to being a mother has its own name: matrescence. Despite this term being around for nearly 50 years hardly anybody knows about it, or what it means, the issue with this is it leaves mothers in the dark, without the language to explain what they’re going through.

So how can we use this and turn it into a positive action plan for when your baby arrives?

‘A Fourth Trimester Action Plan for Wellness’ was published by registered nurse and academic researcher Jane Savage in April 2020. It highlighted that planning for birth should extend beyond labour and suggests a wellness plan for the fourth trimester. She came to the conclusion that “Planning for stress-reduction measures may serve as a proactive intervention to lessen the incidence of maternal distress, postpartum stress syndrome, or postpartum mood disorders”  However, postnatal plans are not widely used in the UK.

I am passionate about helping new parents implement such a plan, I want to normalise the change that mothers go through post birth and, with knowledge and awareness of these changes, I hope that it makes them more manageable and expected. I hope that by preparing you for the changes you will naturally go through it will ensure that you know you are not alone, that you feel empowered and ready for this change and can enjoy (nearly) every moment that is given to you.

Pre birth support:

By preparing and educating and supporting you through the huge psychological, emotional, hormonal and physiological changes that happen as you transition into being a parent we can decrease the chances of Post partum depression, anxiety and ensure the best possible chance of you being relaxed and calm when baby arrives. I also have courses and support to ensure baby sleeps well, feeds well and responds well to the changes in the fourth trimester.

Through the first few months:

Babies change quickly. I have been working with new parents long enough to know when you will need certain information and support on your parenting journey. My courses and information cover popular topics such as feeding, weaning, sleeping, first aid, choking, baby routines and illness and teething. When you are prepared you can be more relaxed, when babies are sleeping and feeding well your anxiety is eased.

Moving forward:

Whether you are a stay at home parent or have your return to work approaching, those first few months fly by. My support and courses will ensure your parenting journey into toddler years and beyond is a confident and calm journey. I have courses on toddler behaviour, transitioning back to work, separation anxiety, getting a baby onto a bottle, fussy eating, potty training, dummy removal and much more.

"I can genuinely say this was such a gentle process and we had practically no tears (from any of us!). I’d recommend the course in a heartbeat."
